The Sveti Petar peninsula is connected to the north side with the mainland. Old maps and illustrations now show that in the middle between the peninsula and the mainland was a small sea pond and partly separated from either by human or nature.
In the early years of the last century, mainly as a defense, it was necessary to pour out the canal to ensure the circulation of the ocean. The gap was later connected with woods and stones as well as a stone bridge. Therefore, some poets and musicians wrote about the change of the then independent Sv. Petars, that is the small island.
